Carn Bhren is in the charming coastal village of Portmahomack on the Tarbat peninsula. Built for the village doctor, the house is an attractive traditional property of some presence, set in generous, sheltered grounds.
The Tarbat Peninsula is a promontory lying to the north of Inverness between the Dornoch and Cromarty Firths. The area is popular for its dry climate, wonderful coastal light and fertile farmland culminating in a coastline of sheer cliffs and sandy beaches dotted with historic fishing villages. This varied landscape offers many opportunities for a wide range of rural sports and recreation, from enjoying the sandy beaches to trout fishing on Loch Eye and golfing on one of the many links golf courses along the coast as far as Sutherland, including the world famous Royal Dornoch Championship Course.
Portmahomack is a former fishing village of traditional houses overlooking a beautiful sandy beach and the Dornoch Firth to the mountains of Sutherland. The village has a post office, shop, fish restaurant, hotels and a pub, cafe, primary school and nursery, Tarbat Discovery Centre Museum and nearby Tarbat Ness Lighthouse and the highly regarded golf course, while nearby Tain has an excellent range of shops and amenities including supermarkets and shops, a medical centre, secondary school, leisure centre with swimming pool and a library. Inverness, about an hour’s drive away, has all the facilities of a modern city including its airport with regular flights to the South and Europe.
The current owners purchased the property in 2019 and since then have carried out improvements including rewiring, upgrading the external drainage and redecoration. The house has well laid out accommodation and the first floor bedroom configuration has one wing with two en suite bedrooms in which the sellers use for B&B guests. With this in mind, the sellers have secured STL licences for these B&B rooms HI-20263-F and for the AirBnB of the gypsy caravan HI-20264-F.
